Hi, I have some questions that my prof. gave us for practice for my final. I have solved most of them, but here's a few that stumped me.
1. The 5927Co (cobalt) nucleus has a mass of 58.933198 u *. Find the mass of all of the individual neutrons and protons if the nucleus were to be separated into its constituents, and therefore the mass defect.
2. Find the binding energy per nucleon for the 20280Hg nucleus whose mass is 201.970617 u.
3. The half-life of a radioactive radium isotope is 1600 years.
Find (a) the decay constant, l; (b) If (at t=0 seconds after a measurement begins) there are 0.5 moles of radium atoms in the sample, calculate how many remain after 100 years. |
